Mystic Seaport’s North Dock this weekend will be the hot spot when the Model Yacht Regatta sails into town.

The Seaport hosted the East Coast 12 Meter Region 1 Championships event last year with 19 boats in the water, and this year will be no different. The championships are a big deal in the boating world, with the top five heading to the national championships later this year in Florida.

But whether you follow the sport or not, it will still be a sight to see. The boats are 60” long with a 6’ mast, and they are the growing rage in the northeast’s boating world. And, the skippers have been known to offer guests a shot at the sails.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. Check the Seaport’s website for up to date information.
