Putnam’s Great Pumpkin Festival is October 22.

If you are looking to experience some beautiful foliage and have a little fall themed fun, Putnam Connecticut’s Great Pumpkin Festival is a great time. Combine a trip here with one of  Walktober’s walks and  you’ve got the makings of a perfect fall day.

The Great Pumpkin Festival runs 10-4 pm, Sunday, October 22, 2011 from Union Square to Riverfront Commons. Live music, arts & crafts, gallery shows, pumpkin carving contest (register your pre carved pumpkin from 10-11 am), scarecrow contest (deadline has passed to submit), GIANT pumpkin, entertainment and a train excursion.

Food? Yes and there are, of course, the requisite pumpkin temptations at all the many local restaurants. Pumpkin ice cream, lattes, muffins, martinis, raviolis, ice cream…you name it, you’ll probably find it seasonally spiced.

The round trip 90 minute train ride departs from Union Station on Main Street, heading north. Train tickets are now available at Victoria Station Cafe and at WINY radio. If there are any tickets left the day of the event (and they generally sell out) they will be at the train station.

Cool way to view the Fall colors!
