Mystic Seaport’s 33rd Annual Sea Music Festival.

One of the coolest things about living in eastern Connecticut (as if we need to remind you) is the historical component — especially when you can get that dose of history in the most fun way possible. For instance, this weekend is the 33rd Annual Sea Music Festival at Mystic Seaport, an event known all over the world for sea music fans.

Along with the usual featured performances, this year two new features are happening. The Sea Music Storytelling Stage with storytellers from all over New England, and the Sea Music Contra Dance (live music!). Should be great additions to an already awesome program.

The Mystic Seaport’s Chantey Staff does it’s thing, along with performers from the U.S. and around the world. The event runs through Sunday and includes concerts, workshops, performances for kids and even a jaunt aboard the Seaport’s historic boats.

There’s also a weekend-long symposium for those visitors who want a higher level of detail. A complete list of performers can be found on the website. If you’re in town and love the sea, music and Mystic, you don’t want to miss this one. Amazing atmosphere, great music and truly an experience.
