..isms at the Florence Griswold Museum. Art 101 in one visit.
Art 101 is a college course that should be required for anyone who enjoys art. The class complete with full screen imagery, lectures and visits to galleries is a must for truly understanding all that fine art has to offer.
Closest thing to a good art educating right now (outside of college) is the new exhibit “…isms: Unlocking Art’s Mysteries” at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme. The exhibit examines 100 pieces of art from the 18th to 21st centuries while explaining specific art styles.
Kristina Dorsey, writer for The Day in New London said “…isms: Unlocking Art’s Mysteries” provides thoughtful, in-depth explorations of art movements” such as Neoclassicism, Historicism, Romanticism, Luminism, Japonism and more. It’s not the full history of art of course but a look at some much discussed and well-loved styles.
The exhibit runs now through June 10. Call 860-434-5542 or visit them on the web to learn more.
